To quickly get acquainted with NetCloak, you can install the NetCloak Introduction as described below. The Introduction includes links to sample pages which demonstrate some of the features of NetCloak and the on-line User's Guide (in HTML format).

The instructions below assume that your web server is already configured for Web service. If it is not, consult your web server documentation for instructions.

To Install The NetCloak Introduction

1. Expand the compressed NetCloak demo package, or insert the NetCloak disk and use the installer to place the "NetCloak 2.5" folder on your hard disk.

2. Open the "NetCloak Introduction" folder, and copy the entire contents to your web server's root folder.

   If your web server software supports multiple root folders, copy it to your "default" or "main" root folder.

   If your web server is configured to restrict CGIs to a certain folder (like "cgi-bin"), temporarily disable this feature while going through the NetCloak Introduction. When you perform the complete installation of NetCloak this feature can be re-enabled, but the simple introductory setup is best done with NetCloak in the server root folder.

3. Start up the web server, then double-click the NetCloak.acgi application to launch it.

   Starting NetCloak by double-clicking on it is not required, as the Web server will automatically start it as needed. However, starting by hand is recommended to avoid possible start-up errors.

4. Once your server is ready, open your browser and load the following URL:

        http://your.server.com/NetCloak.acgi$/NetCloak.html

   You'll need to substitute the address of your server for "your.server.com", of course.

   The NetCloak Demo and Information page should appear, with some of the basics about NetCloak, examples of what you can do with it and links to more information.

   Try looking at the Introduction pages in your Web browser, by connecting to your Web server with NetCloak installed. Then locate and open the same page directly on the server with a text editor such as BBEdit. Viewing the pages directly in a text editor will show you exactly how NetCloak commands are used, and seeing the results in your browser will give you an idea for how these commands are processed.
